Winno Jean (Holmes) Herring, 87, of Navasota passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the Grimes St. Joseph Health Center. A graveside service is set for 4pm Thursday, March 10 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Navasota with Faber McMullen presiding.
Winno was born on October 11, 1923 in Comstock, TX, the daughter of Boyd and Jettie (Sumrall) Holmes. She grew up in West Texas, and in 1941 married Johnny Bricker in Yuma, AZ where she was part of the "Women Who Built Planes" during WWII.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Giles Collins Holmes and John David Holmes; and daughters, Jettie Jean McGee and Barbara Caroline Clark.
Survivors include her daugthers, Nancy Rae Perry of Navasota and Cecelia K. Kirk of Washington; sons and daughters-in-law, Ervin C. and Francis Penney of Danbury, and Johnny C. and Evelyn Sandy Penney of Navasota; sisters, Jettie Rae Winston, Maxine Stroud, and LaVergne Erwood, all of San Angelo; 23 grandchildren, and 45 great-grandchildren.
