Wilson "Chick" Jarvis, 87, of Iola passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the College Station Medical Center. The family will receive visitors from 6-9pm Friday, February 18 at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are set for 2pm Saturday at Martins Prairie Missionary Baptist Church with Mitchell Beene presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Wilson was born in Grimes County on February 12, 1924, the son of James & Annie (Watson) Jarvis. He married Audrey Louise Beckham in Keith on October 9, 1948 and loved her for 62 years. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch, doing word search puzzles, looking out into the pasture, chewing tobacco & drinking tea. His niece was often told, "Your uncle was one of the last real cowboys". He also served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Billie Jean Messer; grandson, William Messer; 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey of Iola; sons & daughter-in-law, Danny Jarvis of College Station, and Don & Amy Jarvis of Navasota; daughters & sons-in-law, Vera & Ron Humphrey of Iola, Patricia & James Mills of Navasota, and Polly Pearce of Kingwood; sisters-in-law, Lena Jarvis of Iola, Vada Jarvis of Carlos, and Mary Crenshaw of Madisonville; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Jeffrey Messer, Junior Messer, and Chris Jarvis, all of Bryan; Dylan Kempenski of Bremond; James Humphrey of Madisonville; and Ricky Humphrey and Joshua Humphrey, both of Navasota.
