Grimes County Precinct 2 Commissioner William "Bill" Pendley, 64, of Plantersville, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 at The St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Visitation will be held Monday, January 18, from 5-7pm and funeral services are set for 10am, Tuesday, January 19, both at Nobles Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mac Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Plantersville Cemetery.
Mr. Pendley was born May 29, 1945 in New Boston, to Walter and Gladis Pendley. He married Betty "Cristy" Carrico on September 18, 1978 in Anderson, and loved her for 31 years. He was a supporter of the Todd Mission Harvest Greetings, Grimes County Crime Stoppers, Grimes County First Responders, Plantersville Town Hall, Plantersville-Stoneham VFD, and Huge Heart for those in need. Bill was a member of the Planters Masonic Lodge, 100 Club of Texas, and Brazos Valley Council of Government Solid Waste Committee, and of the Grimes County Republican Party, and recently retired as Police Chief of Todd Mission. For many years, he was Santa Clause in the Plantersville Christmas Parade and to many children at Christmas time.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Ernist & Denice (Talley) Barfield, and Sterling Pendley & Verda Lou Hawkins; brother, Bob Pendley; and sister, Joyce Pendley.
He is survived by his wife, Cristy Pendley of Plantersville; daughters, Cynthia Hawkins-Reynolds of Stonewall, Robin Elizabeth Mukerji of New Jersey and Charlet Bennett & husband Jimmy of Hockley; son, Norman Allen Crow of Willis; sister, Donna Jean Flukinger of LaPorte; brother, Gary Pendley & wife Virginia of Laredo; and 4 grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Doyle Tylich of Bullard, Chris Hale of LaPorte, Travis Higginbotham of Navasota, Chapman Baber of Montgomery, Bill Bright of Hockley and Todd Greene of Roans Prairie, Dennis Wasko of Plantersville, and Greg Mattox, also of Plantersville. Honorary Pallbearers are Henry Kirk of Navasota and Devan Mukerji of New Jersey.
