Verner P. Corkran, 70, of Navasota passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008, at his residence.
Visitation was held Monday, March 17th at Nobles Funeral Chapel with the family present from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Osborne of the Central Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Hempstead Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Verner was born in Port Arthur on March 20, 1937, the son of Calvin Patrick and Elizabeth (Smith) Corkran. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1958. After receiving a bachelor's degree from the U of H, he married Rebecca Davenport in Houston on January 11, 1964. He then enjoyed a career as a manager for a lumberyard.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Mitchell P. Corkran.
Verner is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rebecca D. Corkran of Navasota; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen & Laurie Corkran of Venice, FL; sister, Anne Corkran of Fort Worth; brothers and sister-in-law, Orrin & Pat Corkran of Flower Mound, TX and Lawrence Corkran of Destin, FL; grandchildren, Taylor West and Maryn Corkran and their mother, Dr. Tina Corkran.
Serving as pallbearers are Lynn and Tery Corkran, both of Flower Mound, Ray Moore of Houston, Don Oates and Leslie Davenport, both of Deer Park, and Henry White of Fort Worth.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
