Mrs. Verna Mary Dowell 77 of Navasota, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Navasota Nursing and Rehab. Visitation will be Monday, February 2nd, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be Tuesday, February 3rd at 10 a.m. at St Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in Plantersville with Deacon David Jarvis officiating. Verna was born Sunday, September 27, 1931 to Joseph & Julia Ann (Wagner) Diehl in Navasota. She married Bill Dowell in October of 1949. Verna was a sales clerk at a Liquor store for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her special friend of 15 years, David Stepp. Also preceded in death by daughter, Vickie Singleton, sisters, Ceila Foxworth, Lorene Kipp, and Dolores Diehl, brothers, Alfred Diehl and Albert Diehl.
She is survived by her daughter, Delores and Tony Schultz of Dobbin, sister, Kathy
Elliott of Houston; Irene Hoffpauir of Houston; and Rose Davis of Dobbin. Grandchildren, Julie Ann Rodgers of Spiro, OK, Kristi Anders of Houston, Robert Schulze of Dobbin, Kristopher Kempinski of Houston and 7 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Robert Schulze of Dobbin, Kristopher Kempinski of Houston, Ronnie Brimberry of Dobbin, Tommy Hoffpauir of Houston, Ben Tisdell, Navasota, and Bobby Rodgers of Spiro, OK. Honorary Pallbearer will be Richard Davis of Dobbin, and Anthony Schulze of Dobbin,
