Steve was born in Chappell Hill, Texas September 29, 1937 to Theodore and Pearly (Wisnieski) Gurka. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He married Cecilia Kapchinski in Houston, Texas on June 13, 1959 and together they raised five children. Steve worked as a foreman at a machine company most of his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger, but his later years found him the unofficial Blackjack Road "commissioner" as each evening he would get in his truck and ride the "circle" checking on the roads. He was an outgoing practical joker and proud self-proclaimed television remote hog who enjoyed family time and barbequeing. Steve was an avid coin collector and liked to spend time at flea markets checking out coins and people watching. Him and Cecilia would take monthly trips down to Mexico to shop, people watch and just get away. Occassionally, they would travel to the casinos in Louisianna. Each Saturday, Steve liked going to the local livestock auction. His family never knew what he'd bring home. One trip there found him and his wife the proud owners of 57 ducks!
Steve is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Cecilia Gurka; daughter and son-in-law Judy "Bebe" and Jimmy LeFlore; sons and daughter-in-law Stephen Gurka, Jr., Rickey Gurka, Danny and Marla Gurka and Randy "Shorty" Gurka; sister and brothers-in-law Delores and Carl Lane; brothers and sister-in-law Marion Gurka and Raymond and Mary Ann Gurka; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Angie Tomczak and Max and Barbara Kapchinski; grandchildren Rodney Sechelski, Melissa Marek, Peyton LeFlore, Jennifer Katkoski, Brian Gurka, Kelli Purvis, Kevin Gurka, Stephen Gurka, III., Amberly Gurka, Tyler Gurka and Cecilia Ann Gurka and 12 great-grandchildren.
