Shirley Ann Hempel, 80 of Navasota, passed away Saturday, December 2nd at CHI St. Joseph Healthcare in Bryan, Texas. Viewing will be Tuesday, December 5th from 9:00am until 5:00pm. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 11:00am – 1:00pm, Wednesday, December 6th at Nobles Funeral Chapel, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00pm. Rev. Katy Ware will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Shirley was born in Marshall, Minnesota on September 7, 1937 to Leonard and Bernice (Heinis) Breyfogle. A loving, generous woman by nature, she loved volunteering and serving others in need. Naturally, she would choose a field of service in which to work and thrive in, and she spent several years working for the American Red Cross in administrative support. She also enjoyed serving the Grimes St. Joseph hospital volunteer staff as a Pink Lady. Shirley enjoyed reading, canning and quilting, but her favorite thing in all the world was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley was a member of Lynn Grove United Methodist Church.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Laurie and John Shine of Navasota and Nancee and David Henke of Eureka Springs, AR; son Dan Hempel of Crestwood, KY; sister and brother-in-law Mary Ellen and Dan Svoboda of Scottsdale, AZ; brothers and sisters-in-law Tom and Debbie Breyfogle of Rockford, MN, John B. Breyfogle of Minnetonka, MN and Doug and Judy Breyfogle of Little Falls, MN; grandchildren Traci Colbert and husband Brian, Jenifer Shine, Laura Williams and husband Ben, Amber Jester and husband Kenny, Tyler Crowder and wife Jennifer, Rachel Hempel and Danielle Hempel; great-grandhildren Austin Shine, Lillie, Beaux and Cash Colbert, Gavin Williams and Wesley Jester and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Carroll G. Hempel and brother Richard (Dick) Breyfogle.
