Mrs. Sally R. James

May 23, 1949 — August 22, 2015

Sally R. James, 66, of Navasota, passed away Saturday, August 22nd at Scott and White Hospital in College Station. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, August 28th at 4:00pm at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
In 1949, in a small East Texas town called Groveton, Hugh and Marie Robison gave birth to their only daughter on May 23rd. She entered this world fifteen months after their first born son Jim and four years before her younger brother Eddie. In 1951, Hugh moved his family to Navasota. Sally was very popular in school, and enjoyed her many friends, as well as riding her horse. After graduation from high school, she attended Sam Houston State University. In the early seventies, Sally moved to Houston to work for Dresser Industries and later for a few law firms downtown. On January 13, 1974, John James met the love of his life at a Super Bowl party. In 1975, they married and moved back to Navasota where they raised two children. Sally was a substitute teacher and partner in several businesses she and her husband owned. In 1982, she went to work at the new Pack Unit as the administrative assistant to the school principal. She saw to it that many inmates would complete their secondary education and go on to college. In 2005, she and John both retired from TDCJ. They enjoyed their time with friends and family. She also liked to travel on their Harley Davidson and treasured her all-girl BBQ cook-off team the Kougar Kookers. More recently, Sally enjoyed her home garden and working for commercial garden centers around the Brazos Valley. She is well known for her delicious homemade pickles. Sally was often seen sitting on her front porch (her favorite place) rocking and waving to all who passed her home.
Sally is survived by her mother, Marie B. Robison; her husband of 40 years, John; daughter and son-in-law Gennie and Justin Busse of Spring; son John C. James, Jr. of Portland, Oregon; daughter-in-law Brandy Deshazo Campbell of College Station; brothers and sister-in-law Jim Robison of College Station and Ed and Renee’ Robison of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren Chelsi Renee James of College Station, Ashton Marie Busse, James Allen Busse and Phillip Ray Busse of Spring, Texas. Sally also leaves behind numerous friends, extended family members and former co-workers.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hugh Robison and in-laws Mildred and Roy James.
