Ruth Hodges Moore of Navasota passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2008. She was 108 years old. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at the First Baptist Church in Navasota. Visitation will be held at Nobles Funeral Chapel on Saturday July 19, 2008 with the family present from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.

Ruth Hodges Moore was born July 28, 1899 on her grandfather's plantation in lower Brazos County. The land is now the estate of the Harry Moore Family. She was the daughter of Talulah Sue and Elias Perry Hodges. She was baptized at the age of eleven years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Navasota. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Horlock History Center, the Theatre Alliance, Edgewood Country Club, the Navasota Fishing Club, and was assistant to the president of the W.M.U. for twenty years. Ruth served as a Pink Lady at the hospital. She was active with the Red Cross, the Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, and Young Life. She was also a world traveler, always carrying a miniature Bible, and an avid fisherman.

Ruth went to Summer Normal at A&M in 1916 where she received her teachers certificate. She taught school in Millican for a brief period before coming to Navasota when she went to work as the book keeper and secretary for the Louis S. Pierce Dry Goods Store.

Ruth met and married Steve Moore, a prominent farmer and cattle man in Washington and Brazos Counties. To this union one son was born, William Stephen Moore Jr.

Ruth is preceded in death by husband, William Stephen Moore; son, William Stephen Moore Jr; Sister, Lena Berle Dickson; and brother, Gerald Lee Hodges. She is survived by two granddaughters; Marilyn Moore Hamilton of Victoria, TX, and Ruth Ann Moore Perkins of Ingram, TX; three great grandsons; Todd Perkins, Blake Perkins, and Zackry Sadler and wife Kelly, one daughter-in-law; Laverne Etheredge, and many nieces and nephews. She loved them all.
