Mrs. Ruby T. Vega, 83, of Navasota, passed away Monday, August 10, 2009 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center. Visitation will be held from 5 - 7pm Wednesday, August 12, followed by a parish rosary at 7pm at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am Thursday, August 13, also at Christ Our Light Catholic Church with Reverend Raul Marterior officiating. Rite of committal will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
Mrs. Vega was born March 11, 1926 in Courtney, Texas to Ben and Lilly (Hernandez) Torres.
Ruby was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and a wonderful and loving aunt. She always took the time to greet the family with her delicious meals. No one ever left her home hungry. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, and was a great seamstress who shared her talent with family and friends. Ruby lovingly cared for her mother and father for many years before their passing, and will always be remembered for her love of God and family.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Pete and Carrie Vega and Bartolo and Hope Vega, all of Navasota; son-in-law, Jimmy Cordova of Navasota; sisters, Grace Hernandez of Bryan and Ruth Cidillo of Jonestown; brothers & sisters-in-law, Jane Torres of Navasota, Ernestine Torres of Deer Park, Felix Torres, Sr. of Bryan, Pete Torres of Lantana, George & Mary Torres of Houston and Seis Torres of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 67 nieces and nephews, and numerous friends and family members who will greatly miss her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bartolo O. Vega, Sr.; son, John (Johnny) Vega; daughter, Mary Helen Vega Cordova; and brothers & sisters, George Torres, Tony Torres, Jane Torres, Petra Torres, Ralph Torres, Sr., James Torres and Charlie Torres.
Serving as pallbearers are Paul Torres and Greg Torres of Houston, David Torres and Felix Torres, both of Navasota, Jerry Hernandez of Bryan, Roy Torres of College Station and David Gregg of Magnolia.
