Rose Springfield

September 4, 1963 — December 3, 2024

Bryan

Rose Ann Shirley Springfield, 61 of Bryan, TX passed away at Accel Skilled Nursing facility in College Station on Tuesday afternoon, December 3, 2024. Rose was born on September 4, 1963, at Fort Benning, GA to Jeff Shirley, Jr. and Katherine (Keaton) Shirley. She was an academic advisor at Blinn College in Bryan and a member of the First Baptist Church of Bryan.

She spent her early life in Shreveport, LA before her family to Texarkana, TX. Attending Texas High School, she was active in FFA, receiving the Lone Star Farmer Degree, the highest degree awarded by the Texas FFA Association. Rose grew up fishing with her family and helping her father manage their cattle herd. She had a love for red Brahman cattle and had hopes of one day having a registered herd.

Upon graduating high school, she attended Texas A&M University where she finished a four-year degree in Agricultural Business Management in three and one-half years. She had a love for all things Texas A&M, especially Aggie football.

She married Clark Springfield, III on June 23, 1984, and proceeded to follow him across Texas and the U.S., as his career progressed, moving 27 times in their 40 years of marriage. Upon moving back to Bryan in 2017, she found joy in managing their herd of meat goats and helping Clark with their stocker cattle operation. She looked forward each week to their Friday date nights when she would help Clark check on their cattle.

Rose’s goal was to grow daily in the image of Christ and to be a Proverbs 31 wife. She actively taught kindergarten Sunday School classes and was active in small Bible study groups. Those who knew Rose attest to her sweet, compassionate spirit and how she was quick to share her testimony with others.

As an academic advisor at Blinn College, she was a Senior Fellow of the Blinn College Future Works Academy and was presented with the NISOD Excellence Award by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development for her work with students.

With family roots in south Louisiana, she loved to pass a “good time.” One of her joys was to gather with her family at their camp on Toledo Bend for fishing, fireworks, fried fish, and a crawfish boil accompanied by friendly banter about LSU, Arkansas, and Aggie football.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Clark Springfield, III; her stepmother, Brenda Shirley of Greenwood, AR; her brother, Jeff Shirley, III and wife, Diana of Greenwood, AR; her stepbrother, Rob Engster, and wife, Deven of Fort Smith, AR; an uncle, numerous aunts, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces, and her fur babies Roxie, Bella, and Jewell.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Rose will be held Saturday, December 21, at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Bryan. Dr. Tim Watson, Director of Area Representatives & Associational Relations for the Baptist General Convention of Texas will officiate.
