Mr. Murchison was born on April 5, 1914 in Iola, son of Edna (Howard) and Mack Murchison. His father died when he was only four, and Roland was left to support his mother and two sisters at a very young age. He married Frances McCleney on March 20, 1935. In addition to raising his own children, he also took care of several others. Roland loved the outdoors, especially fishing and riding horses. When not doing dozer work or driving a milk truck, Roland could be found working cattle, which he did even after the age of eighty. He served in the Iola Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of Enon Baptist Church. Even into his later years, he loved actively playing with the children of his family and was happiest when surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances and son, Mack.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Margie Dressel of Iola and Nita and Lee Earl Glass of Pasadena; sisters-in-law, Doris Ginglewood of Navasota, Christine McCleney of Angleton, and Mary McCleney of Bryan; grandchildren, Patricia Haynie of College Station, Barry Willis of Iola, Larry Willis of Iola, Kevin Glass of Katy, and Karen Glass of Pasadena; 14 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; and very special family members, Jimmy Bruce of Conroe and Donna Ray of College Station.
