Ona Francklow entered into eternal rest on June 3, 2013 at her residence in The Lexington Center in Huntsville, Texas.
Ona was the 3rd of four children born to the late Obie Robert Thomas and Stella Ann Stuart of Shiro, Texas. Her brother, Frank Thomas, sisters Mattie Cleghorn and Geraldine Darby all preceded her in death.
Ona received her formal education at Sam Houston State University receiving a Bachelor of Education and a Masters of Education. She taught school for 34 years, the majority of those years in the Navasota Independent School District as a first grade teacher. She taught several generations of children during her tenure as a teacher. She often talked about having a successful teaching career in the school district where she started in kindergarten and graduated high school in 1929.
On September 9, 1932 Ona married the love of her life, John L. Francklow. The two were married for 73 years until his death on February 9, 2006 at the age of 99.
She is survived by one daughter, Judith F. Bennett (Warren) of Shiro, Texas, two granddaughters Jana Cor (William) of Jonesborough, Tennessee and Janece Adamy (Matthew) of Wasilla, Alaska as well as one step- granddaughter , Erin Bennett-Howard (Malette) of Beaverton, Oregon, ten great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Ona loved teaching and just a few weeks before her death reminisced about teaching and was wishing that she could teach again as she missed it very much. Aside from her love of teaching, she enjoyed crocheting and teaching that hobby to others.
Ona loved to travel and during her life she and John traveled the world, going to all 50 states, South America, Europe, Middle East, Russia, Mexico, Canada, Far East, etc. She got to live her dream.
Funeral arrangements have been made at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota, Texas. Visitation will be on Thursday evening, June 6th from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the funeral chapel. The celebration of her life will be at the funeral chapel on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 10:00 am. Interment will be in the Shiro Cemetery in Shiro, Texas.
