Olivia Gay Wolken was born on November 29th, 1949 to
Roy and Betty Hart in Uvalde, Texas. She met her
husband of 51 years, Larry Wolken, at Texas A&M
University and they married June 21st, 1969 at First
Presbyterian Church in Uvalde, Texas. In 1971, she
moved to Houston with Larry where she had her first
two children Kristen Thomson and Lance Wolken and in
1975 they moved to College Station where they had
their third child Taylor Wolken.
Gay will be remembered for her servant's heart,
nurturing spirit and boundless capacity for love. Her
many friends and family are a testament that her life
was well lived. She loved gardening, traveling and
cooking and hated laundry and the water.
Gay taught as a preschool teacher for St. Thomas Early
Learning Center and served her community teaching
English to the wives of international students at
Discovery and Friendship Connection all while caring for
her family at home and perfecting the best chicken pot
pie in the state.
Gay spent her life serving. She became a mother figure
to many of our Chinese friends she helped immigrate to
the US. Throughout her life she gave selflessly to The
Lord through the church, serving on mission trips, and
providing books for soldiers among a host of other
things far too long to list here. Gay always put others
before herself.
Gay was preceded in death by her father Roy Hart and
her mother Betty Hart. She is survived by her husband
of 51 years, Lawrence Wolken, her daughter, Kristen
Thomson and her husband Shannon Thomson and their
children Collin and Claire Thomson, her son, Lance
Wolken and his wife Duyen Wolken and their children
Jonathan and Megan Wolken and her son, Taylor
Wolken and his wife Shelby Wolken and their son Gavin
Wolken and her beloved bird Peyton Wolken.
