Melva Jean Wehmeyer Downs, 55, of Brenham died Wednesday, April 11, 2007. Services were at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16 at Nobles Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Dan Schoessow officiating. Burial was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
She was born on September 29, 1951, in Navasota, to Will and Adaline Wehmeyer.
Mrs. Downs worked for many years as a bookkeeper. She loved horses, her family, and helping others. She was a member of the Circle 7 Trail riders.
Mrs. Downs is preceded in death by her father, Will Wehmeyer; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Emshoff, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wehmeyer.
Mrs. Downs is survived by her husband, Donald Downs of Palestine; mother Adaline Wehmeyer of Navasota; brother Melvin Wehmeyer of Anderson; and her nephew, Carson Shey Wehmeyer of Kurten.
Serving as pallbearers were Trax Poteet of Houston, Bill Foster of Anderson, LaVearne Backhus of Anderson, Jack Carrell of Bedias.
