Mrs. Mattie Lou Dean Hulon, 90, of Willis passed away Monday, July 16, 2007, in Tomball.
She was born on March 5, 1917, in Center Hill, Texas, daughter of Minnie Carl Matthews and James A. Dean.
Mrs. Hulon was very involved in her church and the Montgomery County singing conventions. It is widely believed that she made the best fried chicken in the world. She loved gardening, watching Jeopardy, and playing baseball. One of her favorite pastimes was watching and rooting for the Houston Astros. In addition, Mrs. Hulon was a member of the Aging Cheerleaders and the Willis Historical Society.
A graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, July 19 at Willis Cemetery in Willis with Reverend J.K. "Tim" Bruegger officiating. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Navasota. Visitation will be at Nobles Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 18 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. .
Serving as pallbearers are James Hulon of Cut and Shoot, Charles Hulon of Willis, Mike Hulon of Pinehurst, Stuart Traylor of Conroe, Terry Traylor of Cut and Shoot, and Paul Spradling of Conroe.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Hulon is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Billie Lou Porter of University Place, Washington, Elizabeth Ann Amason of Oxnard, California, and Jonni Ruth and Stanley Almoney of Houston; sons and daughters-in-law, James L. and Elaine Hulon of Cut and Shoot, Joel Michael and Lee Hulon of Pinehurst, Thomas A. and Sharon Hulon of Navasota, and Charles William Hulon of Willis; sisters, Sue Spradling of Conroe and Minnie Carl Phillips of Woodville; brother and sister-in-law, J.A. and Mary Dean of San Antonio; nineteen grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Minnie Dean; husband, W. E. Hulon; daughter, Judith Elaine Bell; sister, Anne Traylor; brothers, Armon, Quincy, Arlis, Leslie, Lovell, and Hudson Dean; and grandson, James Eric Hulon.
