Mary Terrell Pederson, 90, of Houston and formerly of Navasota, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Vosswood Nursing Home in Houston. Graveside services will be held in Oakland Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Craig Sanders officiating. Visitation was held Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Mary was born May 8, 1918, in Navasota to Joseph Percy & Ruth Lewis Terrell. After graduating high school she attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She then married Clyde Pederson and raised her family. In addition to helping her husband work in his store, Mary also worked in the nursing home. She was a faithful church member and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church where she also taught Bible and Sunday school, and she generously contributed to the Austin Presbyterian Seminary. Mary's favorite hobby was playing Bridge and she was a loyal member of the Tuesday Bridge Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Pederson and daughter, Marietta Pederson.
Mrs. Pederson is survived by her children, Ruth Lewis Pederson Hoke and husband Dewey of Houston, Terry Pederson McElroy and husband Sammy of Navasota, Helen Pederson Sechelski and husband Michael of Houston, Clyde Pederson, Jr. and wife Susan of The Woodlands, and Rev. William Pederson and wife Barbara of Matthews, NC; brother, William Joseph Terrell of Navasota; grandchildren, Terry Elaine Estes and husband Brent, Dewey Hoke, Jr. and wife Jennifer, Mike Pederson, Mark Pederson and wife Kristi, Sarah Elizabeth & Rachel Leigh Sechelski, and Sarah Catherine & Addie Marie Pederson; great-grandchildren, Emily Estes, Ryan Estes, Josh Hoke, Cecil Hoke, Ross Pederson, and Marcus Pederson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Bill Terrell, Jr. of Navasota, Dewey Hoke, Jr. of Magnolia, Ricky Isbell of Navasota, Brent Estes of Houston, Mike Pederson of Anderson, and Mark Pederson of Lago Vista.
For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Women of the Church.
