Mary L Hunt, 78, of Leander, formerly of Bryan, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in Round Rock. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am, until the time of service at 1pm, Thursday, February 6, 2025, at College Heights Assembly of God, 4100 Old College Road, Bryan, Texas 77803. Interment will follow in Restever Memorial Park in Bryan. Services are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Mary was born to her parents, James and Louise Neu Herrick, in Lindsay, Texas on May 1 , 1946. Fittingly, Mary was born on a Sunday. Mary grew up with her parents in and around Fort Worth. Mary was the oldest sister to her three brothers. Always assisting Mamaw with raising her three younger brothers and making sure they stayed in line. In 1977 Mary and her five children moved to Bryan to raise her children. Mary raised her children on her own and was a dedicated mother to all of them. Active in church and always working to make ends meet. Due to her faith and strong work ethic, she always found a way to provide love and spiritual nourishment to her kids.

In 1989 she started working at Bethel Temple as the church secretary and had been a member there since moving to Bryan. Mary bought her first home and lived in Bryan until she retired in 2010. She sold her house and moved to Cedar Park, Texas.

Mary always enjoyed making her rounds during her retirement. Mary was always on the road going to see family and all her friends. She loved to go visit everyone and hold her newest grandkid, she always made sure she was there before they were born and shortly afterward. She loved to go shopping for antiques and at craft malls. Mary, or “Nanny” as she was known to her grandchildren, was always in attendance at her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s games. Mary was able to also go on cruises and travel with her family and brothers. She never stayed in one place for too long and was always excited to see where her next drive would take her. To Mary the road truly went on forever, and the card games, board games, and often competitive games of 42 were always the norm.

Mary always loved family time. Mary always looked forward to attending the Neu Family reunions every other year. Mary loved to cook and bake for her whole family. Mary was also an avid gardener and truly had a green thumb with plants. Holidays with her family were special events and this is where Mary truly shined like a diamond as the Matriarch of her family. Gathering with all her Children and their families. Mary truly loved to admire her work here on Earth as a mother. She basked in the sunlight of how large her family had grown, and it filled her heart with pride. She loved being with her family at these special times and always hated to say goodbye.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James and Louise; her granddaughter, Rebekah Faith Powell; her nephew, Matthew Herrick.

She is survived by her children Robert and wife Lisa Hunt, Charlotte Hunt, Rodney Hunt and wife Charla, Stephanie and husband Paul Powell, Shelley and husband Ted Norton; her brothers, David and wife Cindy Herrick, Mark and wife Kathie Herrick, and Philip and wife Charlene Herrick; her beloved 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren and extended family.
