Mrs. Mary Vitanza Grupa, 82, of Shiro, passed away Monday, March 16th at St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Bryan. Visitation with family and friends will be held 5:00 – 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 18th at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Huntsville, followed by a rosary at 7:00pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 am at the church. Rite of Committal will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Anderson. Rev. Fred Valone will be the celebrant. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Grupa was born on May 3, 1932 in Houston, Texas to Nicholas and Estelle (Sedita) Vitanza. She married Floyd Grupa on November 14, 1954 and together they raised two sons, Nicholas and William. Mary worked as a nurse for 35 years and was very active in her church. She was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Altar Society and a volunteer at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Floyd Grupa of Shiro; son Nicholas, also of Shiro; sisters Anna Collins and Estelle Vitanza, both of Cypress; Brothers and sisters-in-law Victor and Debra Vitanza of Livingston and Joseph and Linda Vitanza of Shiro, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Grupa was preceded in death by her parents and son, William.
Serving as pallbearers are Mark Villman of Hockley, Dr. C. H. Prihoda of Navasota, Michael Grupa of Pasadena, Dale Walkoviak of Anderson, Jerry Landry of Pier Point, Louisiana and Mark Vitanza of Centerville.
