Margaret Evans Baker Goodwin, 90, of Navasota, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Grimes St. Joseph Health Center. Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Navasota with the Rev. Donald Kasper officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Navasota. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Goodwin was born June 28, 1917 in Navasota, daughter of Myrtle Evans and Henry Cady Baker. She attended school in Navasota, graduating from Navasota High School in 1935. She then attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas and returned to Navasota to work with her father in his insurance business. She married Roy Elliott Goodwin in 1942, and they lived in San Antonio, Texas and McCook, Nebraska during World War II. After the war, she and her husband returned to Navasota where they lived the rest of their lives. Mrs. Goodwin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Navasota where she served for many years as Secretary for the Memorial Fund. She was active in numerous civic and cultural organizations including the Navasota Garden Club, the Robert Gaines Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Zuber-Hadley Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Goodwin and James H. Dudley of Comanche, Texas; son, Elliott Baker Goodwin of New York, New York; grandson, James H. Dudley IV of Houston, Texas; and brother and sister-in-law, Jack W. and Jacqueline Baker of Navasota.
