Loy was born in Terrell, Texas on August 20, 1926 to George and Carrie (Ward) Martin. He married Lois Jane Zimerman and together they raised four children. Loy earned the nickname “Cowboy” early in life while riding saddle bronc in the rodeo circuit. He loved everything about horses, rodeo, cattle and ranching. He enjoyed the challenge breaking horses and was quite good at it. He was outgoing and friendly, quick to tip his hat and offer a handshake. Cowboy worked in construction as a carpenter to support his family, but later in life it was cattle ranching that brought him much happiness and joy. Cowboy also enjoyed the comraderie and brotherhood of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member and former Tyler of Lodge 1096 in Tomball and Pleasant Hill Lodge 380. He looked forward to trips that he and his masonic brothers planned each year.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters and sons-in-law Rosanne and Michael Conner, Sr. of Plantersville and Rheta and Ronny Livingston of Ocean Springs, MS; sons and daughters-in-law Rodney and Linda Martin of Spring and Russell and Leslie Martin of Magnolia; sister-in-law Patsy Zimerman of Alvin; ten grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
