Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Louis Martin Stepanski, 78, passed away on Tuesday, May 12 at his home in Plantersville, after a long battle with cancer. A parish rosary will be recited at 7pm Friday, May 15, and a memorial service is set for 10:30am Saturday, May 16, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stoneham with Rev. Edward Kucera officiating.
Louis was born December 1, 1930 in Houston to Louis Martin Stepanski, Sr., and Rosalie Gorney Stepanski in Houston. He attended All Saints Elementary School and graduated from St. Thomas High School in Houston. Each year he looked forward to his "1st Grade" class reunion.
He began his career with Southern Pacific Railroad in 1950. When he became a tax agent, he was transferred to El Paso. Throughout his career and life he lived in Santa Fe, NM, Phoenix, AZ, Elephant Butte, NM, Houston, TX and Plantersville, TX. He retired from Southern Pacific in 1995.
Louis will be greatly missed by his family and many friends who will remember his many kindnesses and his love for life. He loved to dance and was president of the Tomball Promenades Square Dance Club. He was a well seasoned gourmet cook as well as a Certified Master Gardner. Louis traveled extensively throughout the United States and was blessed to visit the Far East and Europe. His high school yearbook stated, "Louis always smiled his way through the troubles that slow most of us down." This was true in life and death.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ann Stepanski, Gloria McReynolds (David Garcia), and Patricia Nichols (Rene Hernandez), all of El Paso, and Susan Stepanski of Lexington, TX; mother of his children and wife of 26 years, June C. Stepanski; brother, Thomas Stepanski (Theresa) of Tomball; grandchildren, Heather Chatterton (Rick), Joshua Nichols, Justin Nichols and Melissa Gurley; great-grandchildren, Shayne and Walker Chatterton; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loving companion for the last 9 years, Camille Tyler, who cared for him with love and devotion throughout his illness as well as his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe; sisters, Kay, Agnes, Dorothy and Margaret; and son-in-law, Joe McReynolds, Jr.
