Dr. Lonnie E. Crawford, 86, of Huntsville passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009 in Bryan. Funeral services are set for 10am Tuesday, May 26, at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota with Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Interment will follow at 1pm at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Houston.
Lonnie was born in Kerens, TX on December 11, 1922 to Joe and Nettie (McHenry) Crawford. He graduated from Kerens High School, attended Lon Morris Junior College, earned a BBA from Southern Methodist University, and received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law. After serving his country in the U.S. Navy, Lonnie spent his career in the oil and natural gas field. He was a corporate attorney for Exxon for over thirty years and was one of the founders and president of Natural Gas Men of Houston. Along with owning Houston Petroleum & Products, Inc., he also served as mayor of Jersey Village. He was also a staunch supporter of the Republican Party.
Lonnie is survived by his daughter Jody Schaper & husband Dale of Bedias; sons, Lonnie Crawford, Jr. of Conroe and Lee Crawford & wife Annie of Alfeld, Germany; sisters, Laverne Ivey of San Antonio and Arlette Hill of Albuquerque, NM; and grandson, Cash Williams of College Station.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Serving as pallbearers are Cash Williams, Bill Hill, Matt Norton, Alan Norton, Martell Sollock, and Ernie Schiro. Jim Bob Ivey is an honorary pallbearer.
