Leora Eickenhorst

Mrs. Leora Eickenhorst, 80, of Navasota, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Grimes St. Joseph Health Center. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are set for 2:00pm Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Donald Kasper officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Navasota.
Mrs. Eickenhorst was born January 10, 1929 in White Hall to Edwin and Anna (Hemann) Boenker. She was baptized on February 3, 1929 at Salem Lutheran Church in White Hall and confirmed in March of 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church. On February 18, 1947 she married Erich Eickenhorst.
For many years, Leora and Erich were managers and owners of the S&S Feed Store in Navasota. Leora assumed responsibility of the business at age 52 when Erich died. At the time of her death, she was employed by Douget Feed Store in Anderson. Leora will be remembered for her independent spirit, sharp mind, and her love for dancing and working in her yard. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and VFW Auxilary Post 4006.
Leora is survived by her daughter Barbara Trego and husband Bruce of Heath, TX; sister, Dorothy Boenker Harman of Lewisville, AR; sister-in-law, Brenda Boenker of Lewisburg, TN; brother-in-law, Claude Eickenhorst of Navasota; sister-in-law, Ruth Allbee and husband Gene of Pearland; special friends, William H. "Pete" Wellman of Washington, Carolyn Douget of Anderson and Margaret Armatys of Navasota, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that watched over her and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Milton Boenker of Navasota.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Harman of Lewisville, AK, Chad Ross, Larry Eickenhorst and H.F. Eickenhorst, and Charles Wellman, all of Navasota, Tracy Wellman of Washington and Donny Douget and Jake Douget of Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
