Mr. Leonard "Shim" Dickschat, 82, of Navasota, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 at his home. Visitation with family and friends will be held at Nobles Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 17th from 5:00 - 7:00pm. A celebration of his life is scheduled for Friday, July 18th at 10:00am at Friedens United Church of Christ Church in Washington with interment to follow in the Friedens Church Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Shim was born on October 26, 1931 in Washington, Texas. He joined the United States Army in 1953 and proudly served his country while stationed in Alaska. On August 1, 1969, he married Betty Thane Fowler. He owned and operated Dickschat’s Appliance in Navasota for years, and then was a Maintenance Supervisor for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Mr. Dickschat is survived by his loving wife Betty of 45 years; daughters and sons-in-law Vicky and Mark Jackson of Navasota and Darlene and Bobby Trant of Keith; sons and daughters-in-law Richard “Brett” and Becky Fowler of Navasota and Dean and Joy Dickschat of Anna; Brother and sister-in-law Raymond “Dickie” and Joy Dickschat of Washington; grandchildren Britney Moreno, Brandi Fowler, B. J. Fowler, Jamey Binford, Angela Lovell, Drake Jackson, Dylan Jackson, Morgan Prihoda, Blane Trant, Lindsey Dickschat and Haley Dickschat; great-grandchildren Emily and Shelby Moreno, Grayson, Denton and Layla Binford, Siena and Austin Lovell, Hagen Jackson, Ryland and Maddox Trant , and Brody and Mabry Prihoda. He also leaves behind his devoted fox terrier, Emmy.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brother Fred “Bubba” Dickschat, first wife Delores “Tootsie” Streich Dickschat and close friend James “Bubba” Kolkhorst.
Serving as pallbearers are Neal Bosse of Navasota, Wallace Bosse of Washington, Walter Schroeder of Brenham, Herbert “Skeeter” Stolz of Navasota, Walter Thane, Jr., of Navasota and Jim Kolkhorst of Brenham.
