Mrs. Kaaren Cummins

Kaaren Cummins, 67, of Bryan passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 at Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility in Bryan. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 5:00 – 8:00pm, Monday, September 12th at Nobles Funeral Chapel. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, September 13th, also at the funeral home with Rev. Matthew P. Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in Old Oakland Cemetery in Roans Prairie. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Kaaren was born September 24, 1948 in Austin, Texas to Ben and Dorothy (Urban) Elms. She attended Sam Houston State University and Stephen F. Austin University, and obtained her Bachelor Degree in Education. She married Leon Cummins on June 21, 1969 in Houston, Texas and was his heart, his soul and his forever love. Together they raised two sons.

Kaaren spent 37 years broadening the minds of young children, as a math and special education teacher at both the elementary and middle school levels in Brenham, Texas. She enjoyed spending quality time at home with her family, particularly moments with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Leon Cummins of Bryan; mother Dorothy Elms of Bryan; sons and daughters-in-law Gavin Leon and Carole Cummins of Manhattan, Kansas and Ryan William and Elissa Cummins of Katy; sisters Marsha Elms of College Station and Rhonda Elms of Spring; brothers and sisters-in-law Clinton and Patty Elms of Houston and Steven and Carla Elms of Burton; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers are Steven Elms of Burton, Clinton Elms of Houston, Mike Burch of Broaddus, Ricky Burch of Hempstead, Ryan Cummins of Katy and Gavin Cummins of Manhattan, KS.

She was preceded in death by her father.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the care and love extended to Kaaren by Scott & White Hospitals in Temple and College Station, as well as Hospice Brazos Valley.
