Josephine (Rios) Torres

December 24, 1951 — July 25, 2017

Josephine "Mama Josie" Torres, 65 of Navasota passed away Tuesday, July 25th at her home. A funeral Mass in celebration of her life will be at Christ Our Light Catholic Church at 10:30am, Tuesday, August 1st, preceded by a parish rosary at 9:00am. Rev. Jorge Cabrera will officiate. Rite of committal will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Born December 24, 1951 in Navasota, Texas to Jose Angel Rios and Maria Guadalupe (Quintanilla) Rios, Josephine attended Navasota schools. She had a nurturing, compassionate personality and soon found her niche in caring for others in the home health field as a caregiver. She loved to cook for family, friends and any occasion that required large quantities of delicious food. Josie liked to play bingo, take the occasional trip to the casinos in Louisiana and travel. She enjoyed time with family and cherished her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Mama Josie is survived by her daughter, Angelina “Angie” Cumpian of San Antonio; sisters and brothers-in-law Dolores Montes, Carmen Contreras, Mary and Aurelio Medina, Susie Delgado and Rolando Lerma and Monica and Jose Sotelo, all of Navasota and Martha and Paul Morales of Bryan; brother and sister-in-law Ricky and Tomasa Rios of Navasota; grandchildren David Gonzales, Jr. and wife Solae, Eric Emilio Gonzales, Matthew Tristan Gonzales and Haley Santana Gonzales; great-granddaughter Delaney Elise Gonzales and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers are David Gonzales of San Antonio, Eric Gonzales of Denver, Colorado, Matthew Gonzales of College Station, Jose Sotelo of Navasota, Aurelio Medina of Navasota and Max Herrera of Navasota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Tony Rios and Joe Rios, Jr.; and sister Janie Rios Herrera.
