Mr. Joseph Barnard Knauth, "PawPaw", 78, of Navasota, left this world to be with his Savior and Redeemer on Sunday, June 28th. A memorial service will be held honoring his life on July 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Navasota. Rev. Barrett Ingram will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Joe was born in Bastrop, Texas on August 2, 1936 to Julius and Ruby (Barnard) Knauth. His family moved to many Humble Oil Camps before landing in Beaumont where he graduated from South Park High School in 1954. He went on to graduate from Texas A&M University with a B.A. He started his professional life selling oilfield pipe for many years before becoming the director of The Texas House, a treatment center for indigent men. Joe enjoyed spending his time with family and friends, a good meal, especially the ones he grilled, and lots of laughter, usually at his own expense. He truly loved living at his farm in Grimes County that he called his dream house and thought was the most beautiful place on earth.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Trey Stiles of Houston; son and daughter-in-law Joseph and Melissa Knauth of Houston; grandchildren, Lucy, Taylor, Joseph and David; his nephews, Pat Knauth, Chris Knauth, and Kurt Knauth; sister-in-law Linda Knauth, and his best friend and constant canine companion, Gracie, who remained by his side until the very end.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Ruby Knauth and his brother Jay Knauth.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bloys Campmeeting Association, a Cowboy Campmeeting, where Joe spent time with God and family in the Davis Mountains every summer for the past 40 years.
