John Noble Ratcliff, Jr., 84, of Anderson passed away Friday, December 21, 2007.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 27 at Nobles Funeral Chapel from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Anderson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Bruegger officiating. Interment will follow in Fanthorp Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
John was born on November 1, 1923 in Navasota, Texas, son of Alice (Yarborough) and John Noble Ratcliff. He graduated from Navasota High in 1941. John then went on to Texas A&M University, class of 1945, but joined the war effort with the U.S. Army Signal Corps OCS as a 2nd Lt. He was in active duty for three and a half years, where along the way in the Philippines, he met his future wife of 56 years, Martha Jane "Pat" Pattnemi, U.S. Army Nurse. John was also in the Texas Aggie Muster member photo on Corregidor Island in 1946.
He married his love, "Pat", in December 1946 and returned to College Station where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1948. John went on to work as a national sales and marketing manager for Anaconda Wire and Cable Company. After 36 years, John retired to Anderson where he worked as a consultant for eight years with Cablec Corp. He also continued his cattle business, Bar J Ranch, with Bill Bay, which they established in 1973.
John was also an active member for over 60 years with the Navasota Lodge #299 AF & AM, Arabia Shrine Temple, and all of Navasota's York Rite bodies. He was presented the Excalibur Award in 2002 and was a Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason since 1990; past president of the Steve Cook Scottish Rite Club; member of the Brazos Valley Shrine Club; Worshipful Master of St. Alban's Lodge #1455 AF & AM from 2004-2005; honored with an invitational degree Knight York Cross of Honour in December 2005, Texas Priroy #23. John also belonged to the 12th Man Foundation, the Texas Aggie QB Club, TAMU Former Students Association, and the Brazos County A&M Club.
Mr. Ratcliff was preceded in death by his wife in 2003.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert & Teri Ratcliff; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen & Jim Wourms; brother, James Q. Ratcliff; grandchildren, Caren Berger, Bill Wantuck, Rebecca Sliman, Chris Ratcliff, and Robyn Ratcliff; and great-grandchildren, Tray Wantuck, Avery & Samantha Berger, and Abigail Sliman.
