John H. Engelke, 81, of Navasota, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at his residence. A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota with Rev. Mac Vaughn of First United Methodist Church of Navasota officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Chapel.
John was born Wednesday, August 24, 1927 to John. H. and Viola (Rost) Engelke. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army were he played in the U.S. Army Band. He was a member of the Navasota A.F. and A.M. Lodge # 299, American Legion, and a faithful member and greeter of the First United Methodist Church of Navasota.
John is survived by his caregivers of 17 years, Verna Mae Gantt, Wendy Gantt and Brenda Williams, all of Navasota, and brother, Clarence Engleke of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ben Engelke. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Navasota.
