Mr. Joe Obaya, 91 of Bedias, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00-7:00pm at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30am at Westway Baptist Church in Huntsville with the Rev. Tommie Haley officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Navasota. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Obaya was born in San Antonio on August 19, 1923 to Luciano and Librada (Rodrigues) Obaya. He joined the military and served our country in the United States Army and later wed Alice Fay Williamson on October 17, 1970 in Conroe. He was a member of Navasota VFW Post 4006.
Joe is survived by his wife of 45 years, Alice Fay of Bedias; daughter Glenda Robbins of Shepherd; son and daughter-in-law Joe D. and Naomi Obaya of Woodville; step-daughter Debbie Brewer and husband Lawrence Hairston of Montgomery; step-son Jimmie Brewer of Trinity; sister Jessie Reyes of Kansas; brother Sergio Obaya of San Antonio; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and numerous brothers and sisters.
Serving as pallbearers are James Robbins of Shepherd, Randy Emerson of Cut-N-Shoot, James Liles and Lawrence Hairston of Montgomery; Johnny Emerson of San Antonio and James Brewer of Shiro.
