Joan Hinze

June 25, 1945 — October 18, 2007

Joan D. Hinze of Washington, Texas, died Thursday, October 18, 2007, after succumbing to a long and courageous fight against cancer.

Joan was born June 26, 1945 to Fritz Dickschat and Norma Dickschat Lubojasky in Washington, Texas. She was baptized at Friedens Church of Washington U.C.C. on August 19, 1945 in Washington and confirmed at St. John's U.C.C. in Houston, Texas.

Mrs. Hinze graduated from Reagan High School in Houston, received a teaching degree from the University of Houston and taught at various districts, including Alief, Houston, and Brenham before retiring from service after 31 years. At this time she became a member of the Louise Giddings Retired Teachers Association and was committed to improving benefits for teachers.

Joan was a member of Friedens Church of Washington U.C.C. where she was a member of the choir and the Women's Fellowship. She was also a very active and involved member of her local community.

Joan is survived by her loving husband Don Hinze whom she married December 16, 1989, her cherished daughter Julie Herzog-Kelley, son-in-law Mike Kelley and the light that made her day, her granddaughter Autumn Nicole Kelley.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz Dickschat and Norma Dickschat Lubojasky, stepfather Edwin Lubojasky and first husband Charles Herzog.

Mrs. Hinze is also survived by her brother Larry Dickschat and his wife Marlene Dickschat of Rapid City, South Dakota; nephew Emmitt Dickschat of Rapid City, South Dakota; niece Emily Dirkes and husband Scott Dirkes, and great nephew Cody Dirkes of Rapid City, South Dakota; along with many uncles and aunts and cousins.

The family wishes to thank all of the nurses, doctors and staff as well as friends and family members that have been so helpful and encouraging throughout Joan's illness.
