Jan was born in Navasota on April 5, 1958 to IB and Katherine (Hughey) Means. She had a successful career in the oil industry and had recently retired. Ever the social butterfly, Jan enjoyed her friends and enjoyed life. Perhaps even more so after surviving cancer. Jan was an independent “free-spirit”, seeking solace in simple things, her plants, riding Harleys, crafts and her “peaceful place” – her back patio. But perhaps nothing soothed her soul quite so much as the coast where she would spend hours scouring the beaches for the treasures mother ocean swept up… sea beans, shells, shark teeth and sea glass. She collected and treasured all of it and was an avid collector of other things as well.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Zack and Jackie Christen; sister and brother-in-law, Tanya and Van Johnson; brother Wayne Cooper; step sisters Pennye Lowery, Ronda Colley, Laura Edge, Janet Nason and Belinda Lee; step brother Curtis Cooper; father and stepmother IB and Dixie Means; grandchildren Collin Christen and Meghan Bennett; friends Cyndy Kruse, Cheri Kapchinski, Michelle Schaack, Melody Loftin, Johnny Ivy and Debbie Anders; and feline furbabies Drew and Daphne.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents Kathy and Jerry Edge; step father Earl P. Cooper; step sister Deborah McMurtrey; step brothers Mason Cooper and Earl Lee Cooper; grandparents Louise and Oscar Busse; and daughter Randee Leigh Christen.
