James was born in Bryan, Texas on January 19, 1959 to Arch and Mary Ann (Pasket) Karonka. He was the oldest of two children. He attended school in Anderson and later became a skilled carpenter. No stranger to hard work, James could often be seen swinging a hammer on a fence or working on a home in the soaring Texas heat. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, cold beer and good country music. He enjoyed dancing, and will be remembered as one of the best dancers in Grimes County. James never met a stranger and always had a positive outlook on life. He was loyal and dependable to family and friends and never parted either without a hug and the words, “I love you with my whole heart”.
He is survived by his only sibling and her husband, Shirley and Steve Alvarado of Bryan; uncles David Pasket and Sylvester Karonka; aunt Vicki Stark; nephew Stephen Alvarado, nieces Stephanie (Waylon) Weston and Sonya (Adrian) Alvarado and great niece and nephew Kaitlynn and Jacob. James was preceded in death by his parents.
Serving as pallbearers are Jerome Pasket, Jeffery Pasket, Alfredo Diaz, Stephen Alvarado, Roniee Vanegas and Waylon Weston.
