James was born to his parents, James P. Dixon Jr., (his father passed away prior to his birth), and E. Sonya Calvert on August 24, 1956, in Flint, MI. He was an auto mechanic in his younger years and when he first moved to Texas. He moved his family to Texas in 1984. He settled with his family in Iola in 1987. He worked as a very respected millwright the rest of his career in various power producing plants throughout the southern United States. He had many close friends and colleagues in his working career that we know will greatly miss him. James was a self-determined minded guy all his life. From his early childhood he set his own path.
His family writes: Our dad was our hero and our best friend. We will miss him more than we can say. He was loved by many and respected by all. He was the hardest working man we had ever known, and he instilled that attribute in all of us. He never met a stranger and would go out of his way to help those in need. The pride and joy of his life was his 4 kids and 15 grandchildren. He loved and valued the simple things in life, like feeding the deer, sitting on his porch watching the birds and squirrels, and listening to all his sports on his little AM radio. He could very vividly recall every detail and tell you about it as if he was sitting there watching the games in person. One of his favorite things was riding in the truck with his best fur friend Littleman, the best shotgun partner there was. He will be greatly missed by his kids, grandchildren, his life partner, Bobbie Sue, all his extended family and all of the people’s lives he touched.
James is preceded in death by his parents, James P Dixon Jr., and E. Sonya Calvert; and his siblings; Douglas, Ruth and Karl.
