James Bettis,

February 14, 1939 — March 10, 2008

Hugh Bettis, 69, of Plantersville passed away Monday, March 10, 2008, at the Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 13 at Nobles Funeral Chapel with the family present from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lonnie Ritchie of the Church of Christ in Magnolia officiating. Interment will follow in Powers Chapel Cemetery in Rosebud, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Hugh was born in Houston on February 14, 1939, son of James Hugh and Lillie Christine (Dodd) Hugh. He married his sweetheart, Maxine Payne, on May 28, 1957 in Jacinto City, TX. Hugh worked as a welder at the Maxwell House Coffee Plant in Houston and was a member of the Pipefitters Local #211 Union. He was also a member of the Navasota #309 Eastern Star, past master of Orphans Friend #17 Masonic lodge, and a member of the Brazos Valley Shriners.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Maxine Bettis of Plantersville; daughters and son-in-law, Laurie & Raymond Young of Magnolia and Shelley Bettis of Navasota; son, Bubba Bettis of Navasota; sister, Helen Manning of Houston; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Bubba Bettis of Navasota, Raymond Young of Magnolia, Charles Young of New Caney, John Dirickson of Iola, John LeFlore of Navasota, and Caswell Young of Magnolia.
