James Peterson (Pete) Allphin was born August 16, 1932 and passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011.
During his youth Pete lived in Navasota where he attended and graduated from NISD schools. From 1949 until 1953 he attended and graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas.
Upon graduation with a degree in Business Administration, he was employed by Standard Oil Company of Texas where in Texas and Colorado he spent most of twenty-five years as an accountant with supervisory responsibilities. His first assignment was at the Standard Office in Monahans, Texas where in 1954 he married Joy Mallow and this was followed by 57 years of marital bliss with a devoted wife and 2 children.
Prior to 1970 Pete was transferred to Denver where he spent most of his 25 years. During the latter part of this period he was transferred to Standard of California located near San Francisco. Shortly thereafter he elected to return to the Denver area and re-establish his home in suburban Lakewood.
For the following ten years he was employed with Coors Energy where he served as a senior accountant until the company was dissolved or acquired by another corporation. Shortly after retirement, his son, Christopher, died unexpectedly from diabetic complications. This heavy loss was the family's only major adversity during his final years.
Shortly after his son's death, Pete was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease which exists in our mother's family. With this debilitating disorder he received the best possible care from his wife who served as caregiver and was assisted by the Denver Alzheimer's Organization until his last year when he began to receive care in a hospice hospital that was most fulfilling to patient and family.
Cremation and memorial services are scheduled for November 6, 2011 in Lakewood, Colorado. Interment in Navasota is pending but to date has not been scheduled.
During his entire lifetime, Pete was always a member of the local Methodist Church. His daughter, Deborah is currently a Methodist Minister and youth counselor.
