Mrs. Gladys Gideon McKown, 91, of Iola passed away Thursday, June 16 in College Station. The family will receive visitors from 5-7pm Saturday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota. Funeral services are set for 10am Monday at the Iola Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Concord Cemetery in Iola.
Gladys was born in Montgomery on January 28, 1920, the daughter of Joseph and Lillie (Gibbs) Gideon. She married Willie Ray McKown in Houston on March 9, 1946. A graduate of Montgomery High School, she owned and operated a dairy farm for any years with her husband. She was also a member of the Ruth class at Iola Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Ray McKown; parents, Joseph and Lillie Gideon; son, Ronnie McKown; daughter, Billie Sue Williams; brothers, Charlie, Marvin and Joe Gideon; and sister, Thelma Holmes.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Mike & Joan McKown, and W.D. "Buddy" and Lori McKown, all of Iola; daughter and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Bill Larison of Nacogdoches, and Thomas G. Williams of Conroe; sisters, Cleo Dean and Jackie Barnes, both of Montgomery; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Larry Brister, Tony Compian, Jr., Laramie Wheaton and Andy Selman, all of Iola; Gordon Coneley of Madisonville; and Bill Barnes of Willis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Iola Missionary Baptist Church.
