Gladys L. Malone, 83, of Bedias, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Nobles Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 5:00 - 7:00pm. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 10:00am at the First Baptist Church of Navasota. The Rev. Clyde Larrabee will officiate. Mrs. Malone was born in Walker County on October 26, 1930. She married Paul Morwood Nelson, Sr., and together they raised three children. She was an LVN and home health care nurse in Grimes County for many years. After losing her husband in 1988, Mrs. Malone eventually remarried and later retired.
She felt called to use her gift of love and compassion in the field of nursing, extending God's hand to the many lives she touched throughout her own. She loved gardening, quilting, crocheting and embroidery; but perhaps most of all caring for others. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Elaine and Paul Edward Flournoy of Singleton; sons and daughters-in-law Paul Jr., and Diane Nelson of Splendora and Parr and Ellen Nelson of Conroe; sisters Annie Faye Gould of New Caney and Shelby Kinard of Houston; brothers and sisters-in-law Johnny and Faye Watson of Kingwood and James and Becky Watson of Houston; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Paul M. Nelson; second husband J. E. (Bud) Malone; sisters Juanita Smith and Dorothy Warden.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tonya Scott of Compassionate Care Hospice, Shelby Kinard, Sharon (Pebbles) Aucoin and Terri Tippi for their love and tender care in her final days.
