Gerald Discher

July 20, 1929 — May 17, 2010

Rev. Gerald Discher, 80, of Navasota passed away Monday, May 17, 2010, at the Grimes St. Joseph Health Center. Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 pm. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 am at the church with Rev. Don Kasper officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm in Oakland Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Gerald Roger Discher was born July 20, 1929, in Wausau, WI, to William & Lillie Discher. He graduated from Wausau High School in 1947. Gerald enlisted in the Army Air Corps and enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an instructor and chapel manager in the U.S. Air Force before retiring as Chief Master Sergeant.
Discher also attended Concordia Seminary in Springfield, IL, and Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta fraternity. He ultimately earned a Bachelor of Theology and Master of Divinity degrees. Rev. Discher served pastorates in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Clergy at Ascension Lutheran Church in Apple Valley, CA from 1961 - 1965 as well as Trinity Lutheran Church in Navasota from 1965 - 1982. He also served as chaplain for the Wallace Pack Unit of the Texas Department of Corrections from 1982 - 1994.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Keith Discher.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Discher of Navasota; children, Clary & Wayne Parker of Sulfur Springs, Cindy & Robert Martin of Navasota, and Steve & Carolyn Discher of College Station; siblings, Carol Koss of Wisconsin, Duaine Discher of California, and William Discher of California; caregiver, Debbie Gleason of Navasota; 10 grandchildren & 3 great-grandchildren; and the loving congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Serving as pallbearers are church elders Robert Martin, Wayne Ganske, Ricky Thane, and Barry Byers, all of Navasota, and Danny Kasper & Steve Terrell of College Station.
