Mr. Fred Thane, 85, of Navasota, passed away Wednesday, February 25th at Grimes St. Joseph Hospital. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 3:00 – 5:00pm, with a prayer service beginning at 4:00pm, Sunday, March 1st at Nobles Funeral Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00am, Monday March 2nd at Trinity Lutheran Church with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Rev. Matthias Dinger will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Fred was born in Navasota on January 24, 1930 to Fritz and Minnie (Hemann) Thane. He attended school in Navasota and joined the U.S. Army. He married Vermel Stolz on December 5, 1954 in Washington and together they raised two daughters. Him and his wife operated a dairy farm for many years.
Mr. Thane is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Vermel; their daughters and son-in-law Connie and Richard Krolczyk and Lana Thane, all of Navasota; sisters Nelda Shive and Rosa Joswiak, both of Navasota; brothers and sisters-in-law Alvin and Imgard Thane of Centerville, Marius and Jennie Thane of Navasota, Myrtle Thane of Navasota and Alice Thane of Navasota; and three grandchildren, David Pool and Brian Pool of Navasota and Brittany Jones of College Station.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Selma Busse, and brothers Edwin and Wilbert Thane.
Serving as pallbearers are Ray Busse, David Barrett, Larry Joswiak, Ricky Thane and Bill Shive, all of Navasota, Elroy Stolz of Washington, and Tommy Snow of Somerville. Honorary pallbearers are David and Brian Pool, Chase Jones and Todd Thane.
