Ernest Fred Whitcher, 88, of Navasota passed away Tuesday, March, 22, 2011 at his residence. The family will receive visitors from 5-7pm Friday, March 25 at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are set for 1pm Saturday, March 26 at Lynn Grove United Methodist Church of Navasota with the Rev. Nancy Creason officiating. Interment will follow in Courtney Cemetery.
Ernest was born in Houston on March 10, 1923, the son of Steve and Paulette Whitcher, and was raised in Galveston. He married Ernalynn Bryant on December 26, 1960 in Houston, where they raised their family, and upon retirement, moved to Navasota. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during WWII and was stationed in Alaska. He loved church, his children, Galveston beach and country living.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles; and sister, Juanita.
Survivors include his wife; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Ed Kucaba of Oak Park, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Steve Whitcher and Kim Bachmeier of Galveston; sisters, Stella Bruce, Barbara Enriquez, and Henrietta Mendoza, all of Houston; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Elida Whitcher of Houston; and grandchildren, Aurore Kucaba and Reagan and Logan Bachmeier.
Serving as pallbearers are Tom Kopacsi of San Antonio, Henry Knauf of Cypress, Roger Mellum of Houston, and John Shine, Stanley Izard, Edmond McGee, Dennis Saathoff and Walter Gregory, all of Navasota.
