Edwin W. Thane, 86, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. Visitation will be held at Nobles Funeral Chapel from 5-7pm on Friday, November 5 with a prayer service at 7pm. Funeral services are set for 10am Saturday, November 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Navasota with interment following in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Anderson.
Edwin was born in Courtney, TX on March 16, 1924, the son of Fritz Thane and Minnie (Hemann) Thane. He was baptized May 30, 1924 at Salem Lutheran Church by Rev. L.A. Trinklein in White Hall, TX. He was confirmed April 10, 1938.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran since 1940, where he served as an elder and treasurer.
He served in the Army during WWII in the South Pacific. He entered the service April 6, 1943. During his service he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post 4006.
Edwin married Myrtle Schroeder on February 7, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church.
He began work at NAPA in 1950 and worked there until he retired in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Selma Busse; brother, Wilbert Thane; and brothers-in-law, Herbert Busse, Bo Shive and Johnny Joswiak.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Myrtle Thane; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie Elaine & Terry Keenright of Houston, and Brenda Sue & David Barrett of Navasota; grandchildren, Christopher Lee Keenright & wife Erin of Trinity, Stephanie Lea Keenright of Houston, Jeremy Edwin Barrett of Conroe, and Kimberly Renee & husband Damien Tijerina of Conroe; great-grandaughter, Morgan Keenright; sisters, Nelda Shive & Rosa Joswiak; brothers & sisters-in-law, Fred & Vermell Thane, Marius & Jennie Thane, Alvin and Imgard Thane, and Alice Thane; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Ricky Thane, Ray Busse, Dennis Shive, Michael Joswiak, Richard Krolczyk, Danny Kurten, Larry Joswiak, and Morris Schroeder.
On behalf of the family, we deeply appreciate the care and compassion shown by Dr. Luke Scamardo and the staff at St. Joseph Hospital of Navasota, and the Sheridan Nursing Home.
