Edna (known as Beth) was born in Groves, TX to Kennard and Opal Trant on April 13, 1936. At an early age, she and her family moved back to her father's birthplace at Keith, TX and Beth attended the Iola Public Schools. On June 13, 1959 Beth married Fred McDonald. He was employed as a teacher by Allen Academy. Later, they moved to Sterling City TX and then to Loop TX for him to teach, coach and be an administrator. While at Loop, Beth enrolled and graduated from South Plains Jr. College in Levelland, TX with an Associate's Degree in education. While a student there, she was on the Dean's List for all four semesters. She completed her undergraduate degree in education Magna Cum Laude at College of the Southwest in Hobbs, NM. While employed as a kindergarten teacher of the Loop Public Schools she completed her Masters Degree in Education at Texas Tech University. Upon the death of her father, she returned to Keith to be near her mother. Her husband Fred stayed with the Loop Public Schools until the completion of his superintendent's contract. After moving to Keith, she was employed by the Anderson-Shiro Cons. ISD and taught kindergarten. After over two decades of service to the children of Texas, she retired. Beth was known for her dedication and drive to better the lives of her students.
While teaching was her profession, her real purpose in life was to love, care for and nurture her three daughters. She was always there for whatever came. Also, she overwhelmingly supported her husband's career choices and decisions, never questioning nor complaining but being totally supportive.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents and brother Darrell Trant. She is survived by her husband Fred McDonald of Keith, sister June Davis of Anderson, TX, daughters Donna Caughron and husband Larry of Seguin, TX, Katherine Martin and husband Wayne of Clovis, NM and Cheryl McDonald of College Station, TX, six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Pall bearers will be nephews David McDonald of Wimberly, TX, Gary Schmidt of Troy, TX, David Schmidt of Moody, TX, Phillip Keltner of Corsicana, TX, Kirk Keltner of Waco, TX, and Walt Gilbert of Robinson, TX. The eulogy will be read by David Davis of Dallas, TX.
