Mr. Dale Alford

July 2, 1938 — September 19, 2020

Mr. Dale Alford, 82 of Singleton, passed away Saturday, September 19th at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in College Station. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, September 26th at Anderson Baptist Church. Rev. Kyle Childress will officiate.

Dale was born in Lufkin, Texas on July 2, 1938 to Herman and Linnie Lee (Swor) Alford. After high school, Dale joined the Air National Guard and proudly served his country for four years. He married Carol Jo Hejny in 1958 and together they raised two sons. Dale worked in the trucking industry, eventually branching out and starting his own trucking company. At the age of 44 and after a successful ten years, he sold the company and retired to a treasured piece of property in Singleton. Never one to sit still long, Dale worked a stint selling insurance for a while before an opportunity in 1995 would present itself and he and his son Daryl would buy what would become Anderson Auto and Hardware on Main Street in Anderson. Father and son have been fixtures behind that counter for the past 25 years. This proved to be the perfect outlet for him to share his wisdom, wit and time with his community and friends. It also allowed him to spend a lot of time with his favorite person, his grandson Dagan. Dale was a man of integrity and strong character, dependent upon no one – living alone and driving to the shop from Singleton daily until Saturday morning. He loved travel, books and classical music but none of these as much as he loved and cherished his family and friends. His iconic presence at the “parts house in Anderson that has EVERYTHING” will be greatly missed.

Dale is survived by son and daughter-in-law Daryl and Mandi Alford; brothers Don and Ron Alford; sister-in-law Rosemary Kay Hejny; grandsons Aaron Musgrove and Dagan Alford; great-grandchildren Sophia and Remi Musgrove; nephews Douglas and Keith Hejny and numerous other nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol, son Wesley and brothers R. L. and Marlin Alford.
