Clifford James

October 20, 1931 — July 17, 2009

Clifford Henry James, 77, of Navasota passed away at his home, surrounded by family, on July 17, 2009 at 5:05pm. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Sunday, July 19 at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are set for 10am Monday, July 20 at Friedens Church of Washington, UCC with Pastor Ron Trimmer officiating.
Clifford was born in Pasadena on October 20, 1931 to William Gregg James, Sr. and Elsie Miller James. He graduated from Navasota High School in 1950 and worked with his dad in the dairy business until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953, where he served in the 78th AAA Gun Battalion in Korea. He was discharged January 6, 1955 and began working for Washington National Insurance, and later for Brenham Roofing Company. He then formed his own roofing company, Navasota Roofing Company.
Clifford was a member of Friedens Church of Washington, UCC and was elected to the church council for two terms. He was also a member of Sons of Hermann Lodge of Washington, Washington Shooting Club, and once served on the Navasota City Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Otto and Olge Bosse Kolkhorst.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Ora Nell K. James; son, Michael James and wife Shelli; his pride and joys, granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth James and grandson, Spencer Cole James; brother, William Gregg James, Jr and wife Doris; sister, Mary Katherine Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Mildred Breedlove and Thekla Reichers; many nieces, nephews, friends and family; and special aunt, Ella Mae Borgsteded.
Pallbearers include Neal Bosse, Eddie Bosse, Wallace Bosse, Alan Dobbins, Terrence Warmke, William (Billy) James, Frank Korinek, Floyd Finke, Michael Schluens and Spencer James.
Honorary pallbearers include Lauren Elizabeth James, Terry Campbell, Dr. Luke Scamardo (his doctor for over 30 years), Dr. Mario Lamogglio, Wilbert Hilley, the Circle H Coffee bunch and members of the monthly cousin's card party.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Friedens Church of Washington, UCC or the Hospice Brazos Valley in Brenham.
