Mrs. Clara A Thurston, 105, of Navasota, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at her residence. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, January 31st at Oakland Cemetery in Navasota. Rev. Barrett Ingram will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Thurston was born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania on October 28, 1909 to Wayne L. Ammerman and Stella Brown Ammerman. She married her husband, Donald Thurston, of 52 years. Clara was a homemaker, expert seamstress, artist and ceramic maker. In her young adult life was worked in a dress shop as a saleswoman. When she turned 100, she said, "She was thinking of opening her own dress shop but they didn't make dresses like they used to so there was no need for her to waste the rest of her time." She also loved to go fishing and play bridge with her friend, Ruth Moore.
She is survived by nephew Fred Ammerman and wife Linda; their children, Bonnie Terrell, Emily and husband David Burnham, their children James & Elizabeth Burnham; Andrew and wife Carla Ammerman; their children Will and Isabella Ammerman; Mary and husband Mike Weber; Niece-in-law Joan Ammerman, great nephews John, David & William III Ammerman and numerous great-great nephews & nieces. She is also survived by her longtime friend of 60 years Violet Bowdoin, and her children Michael and wife Dee Bowdoin and their daughter Sarah; and Lisa Bowdoin; care-givers Debra Freeman, who cared for Mrs. Thurston for 12 years; Beverly Lister, Ms Ina, Michelle and Ms Mable.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald Thurston; brothers William, Fred and Dorothy Ammerman, Bobby, and Harold and wife June Ammerman, sister Frances and brother-in-law Bill Stroud; nephew Billy Ammerman.
