Charles L. Jackson, 77, of Navasota passed away Tuesday, November 19th, at his residence. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22nd from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Mr. Jackson was born in Three Rivers, Texas on Tuesday, September 22, 1936, the son of Charles Walter and Anna Betty Marie (Webel) Jackson. He was proud to be a lifelong Texas resident. Charles attended Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston. He had a paper route and walked delivering papers because his dad wouldn’t loan him the money to buy a bike but was able to save enough money on his own to buy a bike.

Charles met Joyce McChargue at an MYF Social at Luedtke Methodist and they were married on December 21, 1956, in Houston.

His career in the construction business began with working at Downey Brothers and then in the lumber yard at Statewide Homes where he later became a construction troubleshooter. He learned on his own how to draw house plans by taking them home at night and tracing them. He later went to work for Distinctive Homes and from there he began his own custom home building company, Distinctive Custom Homes. When he “retired” from building, he continued to draw house plans and even though he did not advertise his business, customers continued to come to him for plans by repeat business and referral. He also drew many plans
for churches and as payment he would ask that one of the congregation’s best cooks bring him a coconut pie. Both Cindy and Carrie were fortunate to be able to work with him and learn how to draw house plans and home design.

Charles and Joyce moved to Navasota from Cypress in 1994 and became members of First United Methodist Church and Charles became active with the Methodist Men.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Joyce Jackson of Navasota; he was a proud father to his daughters, Cindy Jackson of Houston and Carrie Miller and her husband Mike of Cypress; son, Rev.Walter Jackson and his wife Lisa of Victoria; sisters, Oma Dell Morris of Huffman and Kathy Spangler and her husband Bobby of Houston; a proud grandfather to his grandchildren, Landon Jackson and his wife Wendy of Arlington, Logan Jackson of College Station, PV2 Lauren Jackson, U.S. Army, stationed in Monterey, CA,Wesley Miller and Russell Miller of Cypress; a proud great-grand father to his great-granddaughter, Lillyanne Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Walter and Annie Jackson and brother-in-law, G.P. Morris.

Serving as pallbearers are his friends in Christ, the United Methodist Men of Navasota.
