Mr. Bernhardt Finke, 91, of Navasota passed away Monday, November 7, 2011, at the Sheridan of Navasota. The family will receive visitors from 5-8pm Thursday, November 10 at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services are set for 10am Friday, November 11 at Salem Lutheran Church in White Hall with the Rev. Chris Richardson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Bernhardt was born on May 14, 1920, the son of Henry and Dorette (Emshoff) Finke. He was baptized on June 20, 1920 at Salem Lutheran Church in White Hall by Pastor G.C. Albers, and confirmed on March 25, 1934 by the Rev. Louis A. Trinklein. He married Esther Homeyer in White Hall on December 18, 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was very proud of being a veteran and of the awards and metals he received while serving overseas. He was also a member of VFW Post #4006 and a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther; brothers and sisters-in-law, Will and Katy Finke, Fritz and Lena Finke, Gus and Alvina Finke, Henry and Ida Finke, and Albert Finke; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Lena and Charlie Holtkamp, Emma and Henry Schroeder, Melinda and Albin Eickenhorst, Minnie and Martin Becker, Ida and Gus Schroeder, Erna and Charlie Ashorn, and Ernest Wehmeyer.
Bernhardt is survived by his children and spouses, Glenda and Lynn Pieper of Brenham, Larry and Shirley Finke of Conroe, Frances and Michael Molitor of Anderson, Douglas and Jolene Finke of Cypress and Verlyn and Kenneth Paceley of College Station; grandchildren, Lisa and Terry Paholek, Vicki and Patrick Beecher, Jennifer and Rob Rayphole, Michael and Jaclyn Finke, Marcy Molitor, Mallory Molitor, Clayton Molitor, Kyle Molitor, Greg Finke and fiance' Elizabeth Collins, Ryan Finke, Melanie Paceley and Jessica Paceley; great-grandchildren, Rachel Paholek, Kristin Paholek, Samantha Beecher, Erin Beecher, Morgan Rayphole, Nathan Rayphole, Grant Finke and Madelyn Finke; sister, Dora Wehmeyer of Smithville; sister-in-law, Mary Lee Homeyer of Navasota, and nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Terry Paholek of Bryan, Patrick Beecher of Houston, Rob Raypole of Houston, Michael Finke of Magnolia, Clayton Molitor of Madison, WI, Kyle Molitor of Anderson, Greg Finke of Cypress and Ryan Finke of Cypress.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery Association.
