Mr. Allen Joshua "Bill" Griffith

August 7, 1926 — December 27, 2014

Allen Joshua “Bill” Griffith, 88, of Dobbin, passed away Saturday, December 27th at Golden Creek Healthcare in Navasota. Visitation with family and friends will be Wednesday, December 31st from 1:30 until 2:00pm at Griffith Cemetery in Dobbin with the graveside service immediately following. Rev. Ed Kucera will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Bill was born on August 7, 1926, to John Maynard and Nannie Alice Pate Griffith. He was raised on family land that was part of the Spanish Land Grant that has been in the family for almost 200 years. Bill joined the United States Army, and was a farmer and rancher, dozer operator for San Jacinto River Authority and a propane gas driver throughout his lifetime. In addition to his family, friends and animals, a great source of pride was that of his land, which he saw undergo many changes throughout his life. He remembered as a child that it was all open range with no fences, and not another house for nine miles. The family cemetery, where he will be laid to rest, is on a plot of land which adjoins his ranch. Two historical markers are placed on the original homesite in honor of the family history, and a certificate of honor was issued to him by the Texas Department of Agriculture honoring over a century of continuous ownership by the Griffith family.
Mr. Griffith is survived by daughters and son-in-law Brenda and Kermit Karnei of Navasota and Nancy K. Goff of Pinehurst; a son, Mark K. Griffith of Houston, grandchildren Roy Allen Karnei of Navasota and Bonnie & Cliff Cerny of Devers, Texas, as well as a great-granddaughter, Cheyenne R. Cerny of Devers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John Maynard Griffith and Clinton Borden Griffith; sisters Gertrude Agnes Griffith Goodson and Mary Ellen Griffith Cummings.
Pallbearers will be Roy Allen Karnei of Navasota, Cliff Cerny of Devers, Rusty Griffith of Montgomery, Josh Griffith of Plantersville, Reed Griffith of Dobbin and Willie Miers of Dobbin.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Golden Creek Healthcare and Compassionate Care Hospice for their care and concern.
